Pinewood Derby

It's been months in the making. Sawing, sanding, priming, sanding again, painting, adding stickers and clear coat. Mike and Nicholas have had some good Father/Son bonding time making their car for the Boy Scout pinewood derby race. And if you know Mike - you know how seriously he took this. He had books with secret tips and did web searches and bought special tools and even a really nice scale to weigh the car... :o)

The race was this past Saturday. Their Den had bought a new fancy track with a digital timer. After countless races (each car had to race in each of the three tracks to get a combined time)...guess who won? Nicholas!!! His car was so fast that the Den Leader is actually going to ask if his car can advance to the next level of races! Here is Nicholas with his medal for winning the Wolves and trophy for winning over all. (and doesn't the pack leader look a bit like Richard?!)

On Sunday we went with our friends up to Breckenridge to see the International
Snow Sculpture Championships
. The sculptures were incredible! We didn't have very nice weather so the pictures don't do the sculptures justice...but here's the photos anyway! :o)

Here's the winner - Canada

Second place - China

One cold family...

And finally a photo of Emma during all of this - stuck in her car seat! :o)
