REECA Camp

Last weekend we went to REECA Heritage Camp (Russian/Eastern European/Central Asian Heritage Camp). This is our second year going to camp and I must say I think this year was even better than last year! The theme this year was 'Come Join the Circus' and the opening ceremony featured a circus performance including a trapeze act (one trapeze). And it opened with the reading of the Russian "Firebird" story.

Nicholas had various activites including learning to juggle; making a mask and other crafts; learning a couple tricks on the trapeze; and other REECA classes like Heart Talks (expressing adoption feelings via art).

Nicholas roller skated again at the Friday night social. He was given roller blades when his friend out-grew them. He did great skating!

We all had a really nice time. Nicholas made more friends this year - and Mike and I did as well. Mike and I took camp a bit easier as it was hard to go to the adult classes with an 8 month old....but that made it kind of nice as we got to relax and go swimming! And we learned a few things after last years camp - the main one being - bring a fan! :o) I'm certain we'll be going back again next year. I'm hoping more Ukraine families come!!

Here's some photos of Emma expressing her independence...! Here she is trying to feed herself. She got the spoon to her mouth and I thought she was going to get all the food in - then at the last second she turned the spoon upside down and the baby food slid right off. :o)

The week before Nicholas had a dance class. He learned various types of dance - from Tap to Hip-Hop. He was really quite good!! His favorite was Hip-Hop and then Tap. We might look into signing up for more classes at another time.
